Higher ABA levels were recorded in shoot apices of the more vigorous cultivar 'Langra` than that of the less vigorous cultivar 'Kerala Dwarf`. The ABA content of dormant apical buds was nearly threefold higher than that of active ones in both cultivars. Thees of cv. 'Alphonso` in which the vigour was restricted by soil drenching tratment with paclobutrazol (2.5 g/tree) reveled lower ABA levels (2.275 ug/g fresh weight). than untreaed control trees (2.80 ug/g fresh weight). Hence, in is postulated that ABA might not be the inhibitor responsible for restriction of vigour in mango trees, but might play a role in the determination of tree size by regulating the flushing habit. |
